Subject: Philips messkopf PE 2480/30
Hi,

My name if Frank, i am trying to control a MAHo MH-300-C with an Kanalog.

I can control the motor's with the DAC outputs -> 3TRM2 -> Motor this part work fine.

But the machine has 'Philips messkopf PE 2480/30' encoders.
I want to connect this encoder to the Kanalog but don't know how.

I have this wire's:
19X9 ('mess system mit referenzpunkt' or: 'Measurement with 0-point')
connection 4 White
connection 14 Broun
connection 8 Green
connection 3 Yellow
connection 13 Gray

Can someone help me how to connect this cables to the Kanalog?
Or do you know where i can find a data cheet?

Thank you very match,

Frank

Hi Frank,

I'm not familiar with that encoder type.

But if there are 5 connections then it is usually a single ended TTL encoder with:

+5
Ground
A-Quadrature
B-Quadrature
Z-Index
If you can find which are the power pins then the rest will be obvious with a voltmeter.  But if you apply +5V to the wrong pins you will likely damage it.

You cannot connect a single ended encoder directly to Kanlaog because the Kanalog inputs are differential which require complementary signals (A+ A- B+ B-).

If you have a single ended encoder you can either:

#1 - purchase a single ended to differential converter such as those at USDigital.com (~$15).

#2 - unplug KFlop JP5 between KFlop and Kanalog and feed in the signals into KFlop JP5

Regards
TK

Hi TK,

Tank you for you quick replay!

The encoder isn't directly connected to the motor, but it is an linear encoder.

I found a pdf file with a lot of information, but it is all in dutch.
http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&cd=2&ved=0CBsQFjAB&url=http%3A%2F%2Falexandria.tue.nl%2Fextra1%2Fafstversl%2FE%2F357633.pdf&rct=j&q=philips%20pe2480%20filetype%3Apdf&ei=iEL3TILJI4qu8gOX4-34Cg&usg=AFQjCNFQtqqDKz6qrsNCqKb41pzItmDpKQ&sig2=VMkvzMG9Vl53QIWO3uQ7sw&cad=rja

The encoder give's a sinus signal.
I think the wires of the encoder are:
+ (I think 5Vdc)
ground
Sinus signal1 (I think I have to connect this one to JP6 Analog Inputs.)
Sinus signal2 (I think I have to connect this one to JP6 Analog Inputs.)
0-point (Same as Z-Index?, it give a pulse when the encoder reached his 0 point?)

Thank you,

Frank

Hi Frank,

If they are analog sine/cosine signals and they are less than +/-10V then you should be able to connect them to two Analog inputs on JP6.

Configure the axis channel as Input Mode "Resolver" and set Input Chan 0 and Input Chan 1 to the 2 ADCs that are used.

The input Gains and Offsets can be used to reduce offset and scale errors in the sine/cosine signals that may cause distortion.

The Position readout units on the Axis Screen will be in floating point "sine wave cycles" with about 12 bits of fraction.

The analog signals are sampled at ~ 11KHz so your speed will be limited to ~ 5K Cycles/sec.

Good luck
TK
